Mable’s new Free Shipping Program
Effective February 1st, 2022, brands can offer free shipping to retailers through the Free Shipping Program. The program allows brands to offer free shipping to retailers on orders above their self-selected Free Shipping Order Minimum ($).
What’s the cost for brands to participate?
There’s no subscription or fee to join this program outside of shipping costs.
Brands split the cost of shipping on each order above their free shipping minimum, with Mable (at a 50/50 split). For those orders, the retailer pays $0 for shipping.
If an order is less than the brand's free shipping minimum, the retailer pays for shipping. We cap the amount a retailer pays in shipping costs at 25% of the PO. If the actual shipping costs exceed 25% of the PO, Mable will cover the difference. Example: A $100 order costs $28 to ship. The retailer will pay $25 for shipping and Mable pays the remaining $3.
What is the Free Shipping Order Minimum?
You’ve probably seen “free shipping on orders over $50” on many retailers’ sites. This minimum allows you to do just that.
By setting a Free Shipping Order Minimum, you’re telling Mable “I’ll split the actual shipping cost with Mable on orders over $X. Instead of passing that cost onto the retailer.” You can choose whatever amount makes sense for your business. If a buyer spends less than the designated amount (the free shipping minimum), the buyer pays for the shipping cost of that order.
How should I calculate the Free Shipping Order Minimum?
To keep things simple, brands can set their Free Shipping Order Minimum as equal to their overall Order Minimum. That's the most straightforward way to tell retailers "when you order from my brand, you won't pay for shipping!" Both of those amounts can be $0.
If you need a larger order to qualify for free shipping, try setting your Free Shipping Order Minimum to 10% above your current order minimum, or 10% above your current average order value. Example: If your current order minimum is $100, consider setting a free shipping minimum of $110.
What if a buyer spends less than the brand's free shipping minimum?
If a buyer spends less than the free shipping minimum, the buyer pays for shipping. We cap the amount a retailer pays in shipping costs at 25% of the PO, and Mable pays the difference.
Brands set an overall Order Minimum for their Mable catalogs. Buyers will never be able to spend less than that order minimum.
What happens if a brand doesn’t join, hasn't been invited, or isn't eligible?
We understand this program may not work for every brand. If a brand has not joined the Free Shipping Program, retailers will pay for the cost of shipping on orders from that brand. Retailers will still be able to take advantage of Mable’s discounted shipping rates, and their shipping costs are capped at 25% of the PO. This is known as Mable's 25% Shipping Max Guarantee.
Our goal is to make shipping costs manageable for all. So, as we've discontinued free shipping site-wide, we are capping the amount a retailer pays in shipping costs at 25% of the PO. In the event actual shipping costs exceed 25% of the PO, Mable covers the difference as part of the 25% Shipping Max Guarantee. This guarantee helps brands with higher than average shipping costs, or heavy products like beverages, continue serving retailers through Mable’s platform.
All brands are welcome to apply to join the Free Shipping Program, at any time.
If you haven't been invited it is most likely because:
- You are new to selling on Mable
- Your shipping costs typically exceed 20% of the PO total
- We don't have enough data on your brand yet (ex: you have received less than 5 orders).
Where can I apply to be in the free shipping program?
Please email email@example.com to request to join the program. If your brand is approved, you'll be able to update your minimums in the seller portal. Please allow us 10 business days to respond to your request.
Why should a brand apply?
If a brand would like to offer free shipping to retailers through Mable, and their shipping costs do not exceed 20% of the total PO, on average. Brands can adjust their Free Shipping minimum anytime and can leave the program with a 30-day notice.
How can I opt-out, or change my minimum?
Once you're enrolled in the program, you'll be able to change your minimums or leave the program via the seller portal.
If you've just applied, give us ten business days to enroll you. Then you'll be able to make changes.
Do all brands qualify for the program?
Many brands qualify for this program. The Mable team reviews each application and monitors a brand’s shipping practices while in the program.
We strive to partner with brands whose shipping costs are on average below 20% of the PO total, and we reserve the right to consult with you on your shipping costs routinely throughout your partnership with Mable. We may remove a brand from the program at any time, for any reason.
Does joining the program change how brands should ship with Mable?
No. All brands still have the option to Ship with Mable and use our discounted shipping rates or ship on their own. Opting in or out of the program doesn't change how you'll ship a Mable order. Read how to ship an order here.

When working with Mable you agree to ship sensibly. Meaning, you won't include the cost of shipping materials in your shipping cost that's sent to Mable. You also won't include shipping costs in your wholesale pricing.
